Buyer, Indirect Procurement
As a Buyer supporting Indirect Procurement, you will help purchase the goods and services that enable Castelion’s teams and facilities to operate effectively. You will support purchasing activities across categories such as facilities, maintenance, repair and operations (MRO), equipment, tooling, office supplies, professional services, software, and other operational requirements.
This is an early-career opportunity for someone who is organized, responsive, commercially curious, and eager to build a foundation in procurement. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to obtain quotes, place purchase orders, monitor deliveries, resolve order issues, and maintain accurate purchasing records in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Process purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders for indirect materials, equipment, and services.
- Review purchasing requests for completeness, accuracy, required approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Obtain supplier quotations and assist with evaluating pricing, availability, lead time, payment terms, and commercial requirements.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to clarify scopes of work, specifications, delivery requirements, and requested need dates.
- Monitor open purchase orders and communicate order status, delivery risks, and changes to internal stakeholders.
- Follow up with suppliers to expedite critical orders and resolve late deliveries, invoice discrepancies, damaged shipments, and other transactional issues.
- Support supplier onboarding by collecting required documentation and coordinating with internal teams.
- Maintain accurate supplier, purchase-order, pricing, lead-time, and delivery information within Castelion’s procurement and ERP systems.
- Assist with negotiations involving pricing, freight, lead time, minimum-order quantities, payment terms, and other standard commercial conditions.
- Support competitive bidding, supplier comparisons, spend analysis, and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Partner with facilities, manufacturing, engineering, finance, information technology, security, and other departments to support operational purchasing requirements.
- Help ensure purchasing activities comply with Castelion policies, approval requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable government regulations.
- Develop productive supplier relationships and provide responsive support to internal customers.
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, supplier responsiveness, and transaction efficiency.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, finance, operations, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- Up to two years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, operations, accounts payable, order management, or a related function. Relevant internships or co-op experience may be considered.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow assignments through completion.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience creating or managing purchase orders in an ERP, MRP, procurement, or purchasing system.
- Exposure to indirect procurement categories such as facilities, MRO, equipment, tooling, professional services, software, office supplies, or general operations.
- Experience requesting and comparing supplier quotations.
- Familiarity with supplier onboarding, invoice reconciliation, or accounts-payable processes.
- Ability to analyze basic pricing, spend, delivery, and supplier-performance data.
- Experience working in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, technology, construction, or another fast-paced operational environment.
- Basic understanding of procurement terms, including lead time, payment terms, freight, warranties, and total cost.
- Interest in developing knowledge of FAR/DFARS, ITAR/EAR, and government-contracting requirements.
- Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
