EHS Technician

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technician provides hands on field support to manufacturing, R&D, and test operations by performing the day-to-day tasks that keep EHS programs running. This role reports directly to the EHS Manager and works in tandem with the EHS Specialist to cover the site, sharing field workload and coordinating daily priorities.

The EHS Technician spends most of the workday on the production floor and in test areas conducting inspections, servicing and staging safety equipment, handling hazardous materials and waste to accumulation area, and supporting training delivery. This role executes established program requirements instead of developing them, escalates hazards to the EHS Manager, and reinforces safe work practices in a fast paced, high hazard environment. Castelion is seeking an individual who with the ability to collaborate with area owners to reduce safety risks across multiple departments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily and weekly walkthroughs of manufacturing, R&D, and test areas using approved checklists, documenting findings. Partner with EHS team on hazard identification and control selection.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly coverage with the EHS Specialist so inspections, training, open ticket items, and field support are divided across the site without gaps or duplication.
  • Verify condition and availability of PPE, lockout devices, eyewash and shower stations, fire extinguishers, and spill kits.
  • Triage and maintain hazardous waste accumulation areas to include satellite area upkeep and staging containers for scheduled waste shipments.
  • Assist employees with secondary container labeling and chemical storage segregation, maintenance of chemical inventory, to support hazard communication requirements.
  • Support with on-site response actions where directed.
  • Coordinate EHS training logistics including, room and material setup, attendance tracking, and records filing.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and one of the following:
  • Associates degree or technical certificate in occupational health and safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related technical field
  • Completion of a recognized EHS certificate program, military safety technical training, or apprenticeship
  • Additional directly applicable hands on EHS experience in lieu of formal post-secondary education
  • One to three years of hands on EHS, industrial hygiene, environmental, or safety support experience in manufacturing, research and development, construction, or industrial environment
  • Familiarity with basic OSHA and Cal-OSHA workplace safety requirements
  • Ability to accurately complete inspection forms, logs, and recordkeeping documentation
  • Comfortable working on a production floor and in outdoor test environments, including standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection
  • Ability to meet U.S. export control requirements (ITAR or EAR)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Associate's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or industrial hygiene
  • 2+ of EHS experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or another high hazard industry
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, DOT hazmat shipping, forklift, RCRA certifications, or first aid/CPR certifications
  • Experience managing hazardous waste accumulation areas under RCRA or California hazardous waste requirements
  • Experience working in a startup or fast paced environment
