CMM Programmer
Castelion is seeking a CMM Programmer and Dimensional Quality Inspector—reporting to the Quality organization—to support the manufacturing and assembly of precision mechanical components and structures for long-range hypersonic strike vehicles.
This is an hourly, non-exempt position located in our Torrance facility. In this role, you will develop and execute CMM inspection programs while also performing traditional dimensional inspection to ensure mechanical parts and assemblies meet drawing, specification, and quality requirements throughout the production lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and execute CMM inspection programs using PC-DMIS software
- Program CMM routines for complex geometries, GD&T callouts, and tight-tolerance features
- Create and maintain inspection programs for repeat production parts and first article inspections
- Perform CMM setup, probe calibration, and fixture configuration
- Import and align CAD models for programming and inspection purposes
- Generate detailed inspection reports and analyze measurement data for trends
- Perform in-process and final inspection of machined parts, sheet metal, hardware, and mechanical assemblies
- Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gages, and other precision measurement tools
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and acceptance criteria
- Perform visual inspection for workmanship, damage, cleanliness, and configuration accuracy
- Support first article inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements
- Document nonconformances clearly and work with manufacturing and engineering on resolution
- Maintain accurate inspection and acceptance records in accordance with the quality management system
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection methods and defect reduction
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience programming using PC-DMIS software and operating CMMs in an aerospace or defense manufacturing environment, specifically
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of experience programming using PC-DMIS software and operating CMMs in an aerospace or defense manufacturing environment, specifically
- Strong ability to create, debug, and optimize CMM inspection programs from engineering drawings and CAD models
- Experience with probe qualification, fixture setup, and CMM maintenance procedures
- 3+ years of experience inspecting mechanical or structural hardware using traditional measurement tools
- Strong proficiency reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T (including advanced GD&T concepts)
- Experience using common dimensional inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, height gages, etc.)
- Knowledge of mechanical workmanship standards and assembly practices
- High level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Basic understanding of statistical analysis and measurement uncertainty
- Experience with multiple CMM platforms (bridge, horizontal arm, or portable CMMs)
- Familiarity with other metrology software packages (Polyworks, Calypso, etc.)
- Experience programming for inspection of complex aerospace components (turbine blades, airfoils, castings, etc.)
- Knowledge of scanning techniques and point cloud inspection methods
- Experience supporting R&D and early-stage production programs
- Prior involvement inspecting flight or mission-critical hardware
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable collaborating with machinists, assemblers, engineers, and quality personnel
- Ability to manage shifting priorities while maintaining inspection accuracy
- Familiarity with digital quality systems and inspection documentation
- Experience mentoring or training junior inspectors
